What are Polarized Sunglasses and How Do They Work?
What are the Benefits of Wearing Polarized Sunglasses?
When it comes to protecting your eyes from the sun, polarized sunglasses are a great option, and really, one of the most important things to consider when purchasing a pair of new sunglasses online. Sunglasses without polarization actually trick the retina to relax and open up, allowing even more light to enter the eyes.
So, rather than protecting your eyes, non-polarized sunglasses are more damaging because the lenses do not provide adequate protection. It is essential to wear sunglasses with polarized lenses.
Here are a Few Other Benefits of Wearing Polarized Sunglasses:
- They help to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays.
- They reduce glare and keep your vision clear.
- They are a great option for people who are sensitive to light and/or for those with blue eyes.
- They help you see more clearly in bright light conditions.
- They are perfect for people who spend time outdoors.
- They help to reduce eye fatigue.
- They also offer great protection for those who wear contact lenses.

How to Select the Ideal Pair of Polarized Sunglasses
Are you driving, participating in water sports, traveling, or for just everyday use? When it comes to choosing a pair of polarized sunglasses, there are a few things you need to consider.
Different activities require different types of lenses. For example, while driving your sunglasses should ideally have a darker tint in order to reduce glare. While fishing and boating, polarized lenses help you see beneath the surface of the water and not blinded by glair. Those for travel and everyday use should come with both polarization and 100% UV protection for all types of sun exposure.

How sunny is your environment? Depending on where you live, you may need different levels of sun protection. Those that live in a climates that are predominantly hot and sunny will likely want a deeper tint in order to reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches your eyes. While closer to the equator, there is even more of an importance that they are polarized and 400 UV protected.
What does the size and shape of your face have to do with polarized Sunglasses?
With your eyes centered in the middle of the lenses, you will benefit from a maximum amount of UV protection. Other than protection, you will obviously want sunglasses that look and feel great. If they fit your face shape well and are comfortable you will wear them longer with our fatigue. If the frames are too small, they can press too hard on the sides of the head and contribute to headaches. If too large, well they won’t stay on and serve their purpose. It is important to choose a pair that is both comfortable and stylish.

How to know if the lenses are polarized?
A simple test will tell if the sunglasses you have or are interested in are polarized. First, take the sunglasses and hold them up to a phone screen. Second, tilt them 90 degrees and if the screen darkens, then the lenses you are looking through are polarized.
You can also measure this by taking two pairs of sunglasses (one you know are polarized, and the other that you are testing for polarization) and place one in front of the other so that you are looking through two lenses. Turn one pair of the sunglasses at a 90 degree angle and if the lenses ‘black out’ that means you are looking through polarized lenses.
How to Care for Polarized Sunglasses?
Just like any other pair of sunglasses, polarized sunglasses need to be taken care of in order to maintain their quality and performance. Here are a few tips for how to care for your polarized sunglasses:
- Keep them clean. Wipe the lenses with a soft cloth regularly to remove any dirt or smudges. If you enter the ocean, rinse them with fresh water and wipe them dry.
- Be careful with them. Don't put them down on hard surfaces or sit on them. This can damage the lenses and frames.
- Store them properly. When you're not using them, store them in a case to protect them from scratches and dust.
- Avoid extreme temperatures. Don't leave your sunglasses in the car on hot or cold days, or in areas that are exposed to extreme heat (such as the dashboard)
